LINDEN – Funeral services for Herschel Padgett have been set for 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15 at Helms Funeral Home in Linden. Valorie Clymer will officiate. Padgett, a Linden resident, died at 6:55 a.m. Saturday in Mary Sherman Hospital at Sullivan. He was born March 26, 1891, in Davis County, and had worked as a miner and a farmer, and was retired from Ross Gear, Inc., of Lafayette. He was the son of Joseph S. Padgett and Clara Smith Padgett. He was first married in 1911 to Ore Ridge, who died in October, 1926, and then in 1929 to Gwendlyn Trueblood, who preceded him in death in October, 1968. He is survived by three sons, Robert Padgett, Linden; Martin Padgett, Rt. 6, Crawfordsville, and Russell Padgett, Sullivan; five daughters, Mrs. Robert Macy, Rt. 11, Lafayette; Mrs. Tom Vanderkolk, Fort Wayne; Mrs. Ruby McElwain and Mrs. Melba Robertson, Sullivan, and Mrs. Eva Plouse, Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Max Padgett, Lafayette, and Berle Padgett, Lagootee; three sisters, Mrs. Jennie Serange, and Mrs. Olive Ridge, Sullivan; and Mrs. Royal, Swayzee; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
